Arza Adams autobiographies and diaries

Photocopies of microfilm copies of handwritten diaries. Adams joined the Mormon Church in 1836 and served as missionary for that faith in Canada. He moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, and worked on the Nauvoo Temple. He came to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1849.

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography. Sadie Chipman writes about her father, Washburn Chipman. Washburn was born in Canada in 1829 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1836. He moved near Nauvoo, Illinois, and migrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1847. He later settled in American Fork, Utah, where he died in 1926

Joseph Curtis diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of handwritten diaries. Curtis also writes about his early life. He was born in Pennsylvania and joined the Mormon Church in 1833. He lived in Missouri and told about the persecution of Mormons there. He later lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, and served on two missions at that time. He came to Utah in 1848 and later settled in Utah Valley, Utah. Curtis was involved in numerous activities including defending Utah from the Utah Expedition in 1858.

Biography of Alexander Melville

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten autobiography. Melville was born in Scotland in 1821, worked on a ship that hunted whales, lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, and migrated to Utah in 1852. He lived in Provo, Utah, campaigned against Utah Indians in 1853, and settled in Fillmore, Utah. He died in 1911.

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Mercer was born in England in 1818, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, and later to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1848. He settled in American Fork, Utah, and died in 1860.

Murdock wrote about his early life and his converstion to the Mormon Church in 1830. He followed that faith to Kirtland, Ohio; Missouri; and Illinois. Sketches of the life of Leonard E. Harrington

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten autobiography of Leonard E. Harrington. Harrington was born in 1816 in New York and joined the Mormon Church in 1840. He migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, and to Utah in 1847. He moved to American Fork, Utah, in 1850 where he served as mayor for 29 years. He died in 1883.

Eliza R. Snow diary

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a handwritten diary. Snow writes about her life in Nauvoo, Illinois, and her migration across Iowa to Council Bluffs. She left Winter Quarters and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1847. She also describes her life in that city. She also includes many of her poems.

Sketch of the life of Richard Steele

This item is a photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Richard Steele was born in 1818 in England and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1840. He migrated to the United States in 1842. Steele lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, met the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith, and migrated to Utah in 1851. He settled in American Fork in 1852 and died in 1881.
