Arza Adams autobiographies and diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of microfilm copies of handwritten diaries. Adams joined the Mormon Church in 1836 and served as missionary for that faith in Canada. He moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, and worked on the Nauvoo Temple. He came to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1849.

Biography Joseph Alston

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography. Joseph Alston was born in 1821 in England, and he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1839. He migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, where he knew Joseph Smith, the first president of the Mormon Church. He migrated to Utah probably in 1850 and died in 1891.

Biography of John Wootton

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typed biography. The item was written by Mrs. John H. Wootton, but her name is not given. John Wootton was born in 1842 in England. His parents were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints, and the brought him to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1843. They later came to Utah in 1849, and they settled in American Fork. John Wootton died in 1922.

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Henry Boley and Barbara Hart were born in Berlin, Germany. Henry was born in 1795 and Barbara was born in 1793. They married and later came to Pennsylvania where they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They later moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, and migrated to Utah in 1850. They finally settled in American Fork. After the death of Barbara, Henry married Mary Anderson. Dated 1944.

ALS's dated Oct. 15, 24, 1845 (plus photocopies) to his wife, Mary Hine Carter, are revised transcripts of diary. Diary entry for November 13 describes a visit to the Nauvoo, Illinois Temple.This is a journal kept by E.V. Carter during his journey from Tallmadge, Ohio, to St. Louis, Missouri. Elmer Ewing collection of Mormon letters

Collection includes photocopies of correspondence collected by Elmer Ewing written by Mormon pioneers. Includes the letters of Temperance Bond Mack, Christeen Golden Kimball, and Nathan Calhoun Cheney describing their travels to Salt Lake City and other events in Mormon history. One letter by Cheney also includes a description of events surrounding the death of Joseph Smith.

Barzillai Frost travel journal

Journal kept by Barzillai Frost during his travels in the West in 1843. Includes an account of his visit to Nauvoo, Ill., and his meeting with Joseph Smith and other prominent Mormons. A photocopy and transcript of the diary are also included in the collection, as well as articles and biographical information on Frost.

Archibald Gardner autobiography

Handwritten autobiography of Gardner, detailing his birth and life in Scotland. Autobiography also documents immigration to Canada, marriage, and baptism in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Scope and Contents Photocopies of microfilm copies of handwritten materials. The collection consists of a lengthy and a shortened version of an autobiography. Murdock wrote about his early life and his converstion to the Mormon Church in 1830. He followed that faith to Kirtland, Ohio; Missouri; and Illinois.
