He told about working in Franklin's bookstore, going into the canyons to cut lumber, and working on a farm. He also wrote about the death of Brigham Young, second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days, and floating logs down the Logan River to be used in the construction of the Mormon temple in Logan, Utah. Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten and typewritten genealogies, histories, biographies, and diaries. Most of the materials relate to Mormons in Emmett, Gem County, Idaho. Also included are diaries by James Smithies (1807-1879) and John Scott (1811-1876). Smithies' diary covers the years from 1846 to 1847 when he migrated to Utah. Scott's diary covers the years from 1855 to 1856 when he was serving on a mission in Great Britain for the Mormon Church.

Samuel H. B. Smith diary

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of photocopies of Smith's mission diary, his autobiography, some correspondence, and records of ordinances performed in the Endowment House in the 1870s. Smith kept his diary while serving on a mission to Great Britain (1860-1863). He recorded the activities and experiences of missionary life and activities. The autobiography is brief and covers from Smith's birth to 1857.
