Ole Hendriksen Berg letter
Handwritten letter dated 2 May 1886 and addressed to a brother Andersen. The item was composed in Noregian and was written in Provo, Utah. Berg writes about recent activities.
Brigham Young letter to Rufus C. Allen
Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated 1 March 1857 and addressed to Refus C. Allen. Young writes about protection against the Indians, presenting a good example for the Indians, and gives his approval for a school for Indian children.
Willa Cather letters
H. H. Cole letter
Typescript and photocopy of a handwritten letter. The item is written to Cole's father. Cole tells about the Mormon expulsion from Nauvoo, Illinois and about personal family matters.
Thomas Cresank letter
Handwritten letter written to "Dear Prinsep" on "Linden Grove Bayswater" stationary. Cresank writes that he would be delighted if Prinsep would come and dine with him on Feb. 5th. It is believed that Cresank may have had something to do with the literary circles of England.
Nancy Frost letters to Joseph and Mary Rawlins
Contains two photocopies of handwritten letters. These letters were written in Hancock County, Illinois. Frost writes to family members, Mary and Joseph Rawlins, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She discusses religious issues, family matters, and local matters.
John Carrick Greene letter to Phinehas Richards
Handwritten-and-signed letter. Greene made general reference to recent difficulties and encouraged Richards to "continue in the ministry of the word." A clerical note penciled on the verso of the letter gives the date, 1 April 1839. Another clerical note refers to a typewritten transcript of the letter having been made on 24 September 1894.
Erastus Hartford letters
Handwritten and signed letters. Hartford was originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and later went to the gold fields of California. He writes to his family from various towns and mining camps in California and describes his life and activities there.
H. Heiman letter
Handwritten letter dated 26 Dec. 1850. The item was written in Legards Bar, California and was addressed to D. M. Woodin in Lapeer, Michigan. Heiman writes about life at the gold mines. He states that working in the mines is for people willing to "work hard and live like a dog."
Mat Hunter letter
Handwritten letter dated 28 Feb. 1874 and addressed to Elizabeth Slater. Hunter writes from Walla Walla, Washington and describes family affairs, local economic conditions, and speculates on the likelihood of an Indian war on the plains. He mentions the reduced time (13 days) for a letter to travel 2000 miles by train as compaired with the 10 months it took in 1848.
