Anti-polygamy legislation

Typewritten excerpts from laws passed by the United States with the intention of making the practice of polygamy a crime. The items are the relevant passages taken from the Anti-Polygamy Act of 1862, the Edmunds Law of 1882, and the Edmunds-Tucker Law of 1887. Also included is a signed typewritten statement by Edward V. Higgins (1858- ), notary public of Iron County, Utah, verifying that the excerpts were correct.

A petition and letter titled "Why I am a conscientious objector to service in the United States Military" written to the draft board in regards to the immorality of war in relation to the religious beliefs of the author during the Vietnam War era. He also discusses his viewpoint on the wrongful policy of forced service in the military, calling it a challenge upon his free agency, and removing the ability to make decisions of morality of his own free will.

The collection contains one personal tax ledger book for Great Salt Lake City during the years 1856-1857, just prior to the Utah War. It contains a record of personal taxes paid, recorded by Ward, and by individuals in the Ward. It includes the records of twenty Wards as well as the Sugar House Ward. The ledger book also includes the names of several early and important members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Brigham Young.
