Typewritten biography. Also included is a typewritten poem by Johnson. William Carter was a Mormon who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake City and later in St. George, Utah. He was a polygamist who spent time in the Utah penitentiary for bigamy.

Abstract

The folder contains a handwritten letter dated 5 May 1884 and addressed to Clara Jane Riding. Cort informs Riding that he would strike her name from the list of registered voters if she did not come to the court house and take the appropriate oath against the practice of "bigamy."

Contains the original handwritten diary of Emma Wartstill (or Waitstill) Mecham Nielson that includes the time period from 1887 to 1916, with diary entries spanning from 1887 to 1897 and financial records spanning from 1914 to 1916. Diary is during the seven-month period Nielson was living by herself with her children in St. George, Utah, her daily activities as a mother and active church member, and her relationship with her fellow plural wife. Dated 1887 to 1916.

This collection is a typescript of memoirs by Flora Snow Woolley which was compiled and illustrated by Julius Woolley Dalley. Flora describes her early life in Salt Lake City, Provo, and St. George, Utah; her life as a polygamous wife and a young mother; her experiences on the "underground" to avoid arrest by federal officials for polygamy; and the rearing and educating of her own and her husband's other wife's children.
