Johnson tells mainly about his conversion to the Mormon faith, his experiences in Nauvoo with leaders of the Mormon Church and the Nauvoo Legion, and his migration to Utah. Philo mentions a retaliation by Mormon settlers against Native Americans in "Tutullry Valley" because of cattle stealing in 1850. He also mentions his own participation in this event.
