James Chipman biographical sketch

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a mirofilm copy of a typewritten autobiography. Chipman was born in Missouri in 1839 and later migrated to Utah in 1847. He wrote about the plague of crickets in Salt Lake Valley, how the local people tried to kill them, and how the sea gulls came and ate the insects. He also told about the attack of grass hoppers. He later lived in American Fork, Utah. He wrote about his knowledge of Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church.

Joseph Curtis diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of handwritten diaries. Curtis also writes about his early life. He was born in Pennsylvania and joined the Mormon Church in 1833. He lived in Missouri and told about the persecution of Mormons there. He later lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, and served on two missions at that time. He came to Utah in 1848 and later settled in Utah Valley, Utah. Curtis was involved in numerous activities including defending Utah from the Utah Expedition in 1858.

William Forman diary and biographies

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typescript. Forman writes about his youth. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1851 and migrated to Utah in 1854. He lived in Salt Lake City, Utah Valley, and Heber City, Utah. He was fined for polygamy in 1891. Also included are three biographies of family members written by John Forman in 1932.

The manuscript was read by Jennie Greenwood, William's grand daugther-in-law, at a meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Utah County, Utah. Greenwood writes about his life to the year 1848 and then starts a diary which has many gaps. Greenwood was born in England and later moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, with the Mormons. Typewritten copy of an autobiography. Drusilla married James Hendricks (1808-1870) in 1827. They joined the Mormon Church in 1835 and lived with the Mormons in Clay County, Missouri and Nauvoo, Illinois. They migrated to Utah in 1847 where they lived in Salt Lake City, Springville, and Richmond.
