G. Easton Brown interview

Scope and Contents

Transcript of an interview conducted by Clayton Dahle on 3 July 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Brown served as a gunner for the United States Army Air Corps and flew combat missions against the Japanese. He was shot down and captured by the Japanese. Even though he was starved and tortured, he managed to survive. He said that the United States participation in World War II was justified.

Transcript and audiocassette recording of an oral history interview with Jay Dell Butler conducted by Gary Dewey on July 20, 1985. Butler tells about his experiences in combat fighting in France during WWII. He was in foxholes most of the time, was under fire from mortars, and was wounded in battle. He thought the United States' involvement in the war was justified.

Transcript of an interview conducted by Kelly J. Drake on 6 Aug. 1985 for the Ray Hillam military history project. Drake was in the United States Marine Corps starting in 1936 and later went into the United States Army in 1940. He served in North Africa for nine months and served in Sicily in 1943 with the ordinance section of the Seventh Army. He was later deployed to Germany in 1945 and met Russian troops on the Elbe River. Drake was sent home in July of 1945.
