Biographical / Historical

John Hyde was born February 25, 1833, in London, England, to John Hyde and Martha Marmoy. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 15 or 16, and was sent on a mission to France in 1851. In 1853, he traveled to Utah, where he married Lavinia Hawkins. They had two sons that died in infancy. John was also sent to Hawaii, then known as the Sandwich Islands, on a mission.
