Transcript of an interview conducted by Richard Weeks on 3 Feb. 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Clyde Weeks graduated in 1942 from high school at age 16. He turned 17 later that year, and he joined the Marine Corps in 1943. He went to Hawaii in 1943 for combat training, and he participated in the invasion of the Marshall Islands. He helped establish communications. He was also involved in the invasion of Guam with the 4th Marines. On Guam, he was wounded in the leg by a hand grenade. Clyde was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and attended a meeting of Japanese members of that faith on Hawaii. He said he felt the spirit and was moved by the experience. He said he did not want to go to war but was commited to the war effort. Also included are five poems written my Clyde Weeks while he was in the service.
