Johanna Christena Larson Jones autobiography
Scope and Contents
Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typescript. The item is an autobiography by Jones in which she also tells about her parents. Jones was born in 1854 in Sweden and soon emigrated to the United States where she stayed for two years in St. Louis, Missouri. At that time her brother was kidnapped by those who did not like the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Johanna's "mother never got over grieving for her lost boy. When a number of years had gone by they again tried to find him. The answer came that he had grown to a fine young men, had married quite young. When a baby girl was born to his wife died. Then he got into some trouble and was shot and killed." Johanna migrated to Utah around 1860 and settled in Sanpete County. She went to southern Utah a year later. She married Thomas Jefferson Jones in 1878 and later avoided federal officials because she was a polygamist's wife. She lived in Washington, Utah, and later moved to Overton, Nevada. Johanna was very active in the Mormon Church and held many positions in that faith.
