George Frederick Jarvis life sketch
Scope and Contents
Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript. The item is an autobiography of George Frederick Jarvis, who was born on 16 June 1847 in Stepney, England. The item was written in the third person. Jarvis migrated to the United States with his family and came to Utah in 1860. He had problems with his feet while walking to Utah. He lived in Salt Lake City until 1861 when his family moved to St. George, Utah. He participated in military actions against Indians, married Eleanor Cannon on 7 October 1872, worked at various occupations, served on a mission for the Mormon Church in Great Britain from 1888-1890, was tried for polygamy, and held many positions for the Mormon Church. Also included are parts of a diary kept by Jarvis.
