Biographical / Historical

Moses Franklin Farnswroth was born on February 5, 1834, to Reuben Farnsworth III and Mary Laymon. After a basic education, he worked as a book keeper and salesman in Indiana. He was one of the first pioneers to come to Utah and arrived in 1853 from Indiana. He married Elizabeth Jane Stewart on February 26, 1857, in Salt Lake City; they had 7 children and settled in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He later enrolled as a captain in the Black Hawk War. He twice served a mission in London, England--once in 1862 and again in 1868. He became a recorder for the St. George temple and later took the same role in the Manti Temple. He was an avid family historian and published a family history entitled "The Farnsworth in Memorial" and the history of Manti in a local paper. He died on February 25, 1906, in Manti, Utah.
