Identifier: MSS 9718

Scope and Contents

Two letters sent by Lydia Granger, plural wife of Hyrum Smith, to Elizabeth "Betsy" Marble, in the care of Levi Marble, sent from Salt Lake City, 1852-1853, providing a detailed testimony of her faith and description of daily life in Utah. Also contains a letter from Albert M. Strobridge to "Elizabeth E. Marble," dated October 17, 1853, New Jersey, a letter from Hannah to Elizabeth E. Marble, dated in May and postmarked June 21 from Fort Hill, Lake County, Illinois, a letter from M. C. Angell to Elizabeth E. Marble dated September 18, 1853, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, a description from a catalog of the "History of the Morses" written by Abner Morse dated January 1, 1850, and a promissory note from Roger Benton to Ephraim Marble dated June 13, 1818. Lydia Granger and Elizabeth Granger Marble (1791-1878) shared a great-grandmother, Dinah Holcombe. It is unclear whether the correspondent in the collection is Elizabeth Granger or her daugher, Elizabeth Electa Marble (1833-1910).
