Biographical / Historical

Leslie served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii and later served with Elizabeth in both Australia and New Zealand. Charlene’s mother began the first 4-H club in Midvale, Utah, so that Charlene could be involved with the organization. Charlene was awarded a trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Illinois, in 1949. After graduating from Jordan High School, she attended Utah State University, where she graduated in 1955. Charlene worked as a Home Demonstration Agent by the Utah State Extension Service for two years before serving a mission in Western Samoa. Following her mission, she studied in Washington, D.C. under a National 4-H Fellowship and then received a master's degree in adult education from the University of Maryland. Charlene worked in Oregon as a 4-H Club Agent for four years before accepting an offer to become faculty of the Clothing and Textiles Department at Brigham Young University in 1964.
