Harry George Greaves (Theoharis Georgios Grivos) was born on July 24, 1887, in Lávkos, Magnesia, Greece to Georgios Ioannis Grivos and Hariklia Demitriou Malamati. Harry apprenticed as a carpenter at age 14 and immigrated to the United States around age twenty. He registered for military service in 1917 and served in the United States Army as a private from 1917 to 1919 and was stationed in Germany. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1918 while serving in the Army in California, the first Greek to join the Church. Throughout his time serving in the military, he wrote to Sarah Smith. After he returned, they were married on October 2, 1919, in Snowflake, Arizona, and they had six children. The family lived in Snowflake, Arizona, and later Salt Lake City, Utah where Harry worked as a carpenter. Harry died on May 4, 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 87.

Sarah "Sadie" Smith Greaves was born October 23, 1893, in Snowflake, Arizona to Lois Evelyn Bushman and John Walter Smith, the oldest of ten children. Sarah graduated from a four-year domestic service course at the Snowflake Stake Academy in 1915 and attended Brigham Young University for one year. Sarah worked as a stenographer for the Good Year Tire and Rubber Company in Phoenix in 1919. She married Harry G. Greaves in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 2, 1919, and they had six children. Sarah later studied the Greek language and travelled to Greece with Harry to research his genealogy. Sarah died December 17, 1980, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
