An autograph album for Hettie L. Templeton, a young woman who was one of the first female graduates from the Albany Collegiate Institute (now Lewis and Clark College) in 1878. The book includes entries from 1877 to 1881, primarily from college classmates and mentors, childhood friends, and acquaintances gained as she married and traveled across the country during her honeymoon. Includes some newspaper clippings about Hettie's graduation and her oration at the ceremony. Dated 1877-1881.

Biographical / Historical

Hettie L. Thompson was born June 25, 1859 in Albany, Oregon to Louisa Matilda (Burkhart) Thompson and David M. Thompson. She was one of the first female graduates of Oregon's Albany Collegiate Institute, later now as the Lewis and Clark College, in 1878. Hettie married Dr. Charles Ritchey Templeton and had three children. One son died in infancy in 1882. The family lived in Portland, Oregon, where Charles practiced dentistry. Charles passed away in 1934, and Hettie in 1940.
