Collection of the professional papers of Douglas Earl Bush, a professor of music and organ scholar at Brigham Young University. Contains research documents, such as articles, indexes, correspondence, conference materials, and notes on organ builders, organ music composers, and other organ scholars. Includes correspondence with organ builders about building new organs at Brigham Young University. Also includes research materials collected by Douglas Bush during his travels to study organs in Central and Western Europe and North America, including various publications, notes on organ specifications, postcards, programs, and photographs. Materials dated 1911 to 2012, with the bulk dating from 1963 to 2012.

Biographical / Historical

Douglas Earl Bush was born in Montana on March 1, 1947, to Joe and Phyllis Bush. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University in 1972 and 1974. He joined the music faculty there in 1978, and later received his doctoral degree from University of Texas at Austin in 1982. Douglas Earl Bush was a concert organist, composer, and scholar of organ-building history and organ builders. He died October 4, 2013, in Utah.
