Scope and Contents

Collection contains papers related to the families of Andreas (Andrew) Christensen Fugal, Anne Katrine "Treene" Andersdatter Jensen, and her son, Carl Christian "Charley" Christensen. All are Danish immigrants and early settlers of Pleasant Grove, Utah. The three families are related through birth or marriage. The collection has been divided into four folders, with each folder including materials related to the respective family. Materials include financial records, including several tithing receipts, and correspondence. Many letters from Charley Christensen were written from Silver City, Utah, where he worked in the mines in the late 1880s. Also includes one missionary calling card for a missionary in Denmark, named N. K. Nielson, whose connection to the family is unclear. Dated 1878-1946.

Biographical / Historical

The Andreas or Andrew Christensen Fugal family were early residents of Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Andreas or Andrew Christensen Fugal (1833-1894) and Hannah Carlson (1848-1919) were married on 27 October 1873 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had three sons and two daughters: Jens Peter (1874-1945), Christian A (1876-1962), Caroline Mary Carrie (1879-1928), Stena Johanna (1882-1953), and Niels (1885-1958). The family resided in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Biographical / Historical

The Anne Katrine "Treene" Andersdatter Jensen family were early residents of Pleasant Grove and Provo, Utah. Anne Katrine "Treene" Andersdatter Jensen married Jens Christian Christensen on 26 January 1867 in Jerslev, Denmark. Together they had fours sons and four daughters: Carl Christian "Charley" (1868-1889), Ane Thomine Marie (1870-1948), Marie Jensine (1872-1893), John Edward (1874-1937), James Waltermar (1877-1892), Lavina Christena (1879-1969), Alfreda Berthena (1882-1941), and Ernest Leonard (1884-1892). Anne and Jens would later divorce in the late 1890s or early 1900s. Anne married Alexander Shillington Henderson on 12 February 1902 in Riverton, Utah. They had no children together. Anne had residence in Provo, Utah in 1920, likely living there until her death in 1923.

Carl Christian (Charles) Christensen (1868-1889) was a Danish immigrant and miner from Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Carl Christian Christensen, also known as Charles or Charley, was born on 5 March 1868 in Skaeve, Denmark, to Jens Christian Christensen and Anne Katrine Andersdatter Jensen. At four years old, Carl was sent alone to America. His family followed him four years later. They would settle in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Carl started working in the Mammoth Mine, moving to Silver City, Juab County, Utah. On 26 March 1889, he died in a mining accident, and was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
