Biographical / Historical
Clyde Everett Sullivan was born on October 14, 1922, to Harvey Clyde and Irene Weil Sullivan in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He married Nola Eloise de Jong in the Salt Lake Temple on May 1, 1944, with whom he had three children. He served in the United States Navy during World War II teaching hand-to-hand combat. Afterwards, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned his masters and doctoral degrees in psychology. He was one of the founding administrators and professors of the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey, and was an executive director of the Children's Psychiatric Center of New Jersey. At Brigham Young University, he served as the director of the Counseling and Development Center from 1986 to 1990, the director of the Career Education Program from 1984 to 1990, a chairman and coordinator of the Department of General Studies from 1986 to 1990, and the director of Counseling and Personal Services from 1983 to 1986, as well as serving as the Associate Dean of Student Life and a Professor of Psychology. He lost his sight in the early 1990s. He died of natural causes in his home on January 25, 2016.
