Scope and Contents

Contains materials related to the personal and professional life of Beverly Romney Cutler. Materials document the death of her husband, Robert Garr Cutler, at a young age, Beverly's widowhood, work as a professor of education at Brigham Young University, and her various missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain, Romania, and Vietnam. Includes some materials on Brigham Young University professor Virginia F. Cutler, the mother-in-law of Beverly Cutler, and materials on Beverely's work for BYU in a student-teaching program in China. Collection contains scrapbooks, journals, photograph albums, family histories and biographies, BYU committee task force records, and audiovisual materials. Materials dated 1856-2019.

Biographical / Historical

Beverly Romney Cutler was born to Vernon Romney (1896–1976) and Anna Lois Bradford (1900–1957) December 21, 1930. She had seven siblings, including prominent Utah politician Vernon Bradford Romney. Beverly married Robert Garr Cutler in 1952. Robert died in 1962, leaving Beverly a lifelong widow with five children. Beverly received a master's degree from BYU and a PhD from Stanford University. Cutler was a professor and associate dean in the David O. McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University. She published the book, "Creative Family Living: Home Nights and Special Family Occasions." Cutler took leave from BYU to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain in 1982. Later, she was among the first Latter-day Saint missionaries to serve a humanitarian mission for the Church in Romania from 1990 to 1992. She also learned Romanian and proselyted in the country when it became legal. Beverly also served in Vietnam from 1996 to 1998, where she began an English teaching program. She also volunteered for BYU in China running a student-teaching program in the early 2000s, including working with the Helen Foster Snow School. As of 2019, Cutler was a resident of Murray, Utah.
