William Graydon Watrous family papers
Scope and Contents
Contains letters sent by WWII naval officer William Graydon Watrous to his family, while serving in the war in India and other locations. Also includes a photocopy of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings kept by his mother, Adeline Ruland Watrous, during the war. Also includes military documention and research collected by his son, Steven B. Watrous, and by William Graydon Watrous on William's service. Materials dated 1940 to 2007.

Biographical History
William Graydon Watrous was born September 11, 1921 in Syracuse, New York to Watson R. and Adeline (Ruland). William graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy and enlisted in the Unites States Navy during WWII. He served on Liberty ships as part of the Naval Armed Guard. and later Barbara (Lucas) Watrous. William married Mary Louise Murray on June 5, 1948. After Mary Louise passed away in 1990, he married Barbara Lucas in 1992. William worked for the NY Telephone Company from 1948 to 1983 and was a member of the United Methodist Church. William passed away June 10, 2017.

Adeline Ruland Watrous was born February 17, 1887, in Ninevah, Broome, New York. She married Watson R. Watrous and had two sons, Charles Edward Watrous and William Graydon Watrous. Adeline died February 4, 1998.
Biographical History
Steven B. Watrous is the son of William Graydon Watrous. Steven graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in forest management in 1971, and from Brigham Young University with his MBA in Organizational Behavior in 1976. He later worked for BYU as the University Cash & Vault Operations Manager. As of 2019, Steven was a resident of Springville, Utah.
