Scope and Contents
A CD titled, "I am Jane" and labeled "BYU Black History Month; Margaret Young, Director; 2014." The disk contains a videorecording of a play directed by Margaret Blair Young about the life of Jane Manning and other African American members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It details the journey of Manning and her family as pioneers to Nauvoo, Illinois. It also illustrates the lives of other black pioneers. The performance is based on early Latter-day Saint history and includes scenes with the prophet Joseph Smith. The play documents sections of Manning's life between 1813 and 1908. The performance itself is dated 2014.

Biographical History
Margaret Blair Young (1955-) is an author, film maker, and writer who has taught at Brigham Young University for thirty years.
Margaret Blair Young was born in 1955 and has lived most of her life in Utah. She is married to Bruce Wilson Young, who is an English professor, and is the mother of four children. Young earned her B.A. at Brigham Young University (BYU) in theatre and cinematic arts in 1979. She later earned her M.A. at BYU in 1988 in creative writing. Young has taught writing classes at BYU for over 30 years and is the author of several novels including "House Without Walls" (1991), "Salvador" (1992), and "Heresies of Nature" (2002). She also helped to write and direct the documentary "Jane Manning James: Your Sister in the Gospel" (2005) which was shown at several film festivals and on PBS. Currently her work focuses on reviving the film industry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
