Also covers the history of the Brigham Young Universty First Branch from approximately 1956-1977, including being twice reassigned to a different stake, changing bishops, and being originally called the Brigham Young University 1st Ward. Administrative History
In approximately January 1973, Brigham Young University 1st Ward became Brigham Young University 1st Branch, and Alvin H. Price was sustained as the branch president. In approximately 1973, Gary M. Booth was sustained as the branch president of the Brigham Young University 1st Branch. In approximately 1977, Leland B. Wakefield was sustained as the branch president of the Brigham Young University 1st Branch.
Administrative History
The Brigham Young University 1st Ward was an ecclesiastical unit for Brigham Young University students that began in 1956 in Provo, Utah. The ward began as the Brigham Young University 1st Ward in the Brigham Young University Stake with the first bishop being Russell D Lewis and Antone K. Romney as the first stake president. On April 17, 1960, Brigham Young University expanded to three stakes and Brigham Young University 1st Ward was placed in the Brigham Young University 3rd Stake. In approximately 1961, Rulon Gerald Craven was sustained as the Bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward. On June 1, 1964, the Brigham Young University 1st Ward was made part of the newly formed Brigham Young University 6th Stake. In 1965, Robert Ernest Parsons was sustained as bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward. In approximately 1968, Alvin H. Price was sustained as bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward.
Biographical History
Antone K. Romney (1902-1982) was an education professor and college administrator in Utah.
Before his time at Brigham Young University, Romney worked for the Utah State Department of Public Instruction and served as the director of library and director of school buildings, in addition to serving in other capacities. Romney joined the BYU faculty in 1946 and spent 26 years at the university, serving in various administrative capacities including dean of students, chariman of counseling services, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and was the stake president of the Brigham Young University stake in 1956. He also served as the dean of College Education from 1961-1969. At the university, he taught courses on subjects including education, philosophy, law, and comparative education. He retired in 1972 and passed away on February 24, 1982.
Biographical History
Russell D. Lewis (1919-2003) was inducted into the Army Air Corps on March 11, 1942 and served until December 1945. He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the first bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward in the Brigham Young University Stake from approximately 1956 to 1961.

Rulon Gerald Craven (1924-2017) served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II in the Pacific. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as the bishop of the Brigham Young Univeristy 1st Ward in the Brigham Young University 3rd Stake from approximately 1961 to 1964.

Robert Ernest Parsons was the bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward of the Brigham Young University 6th Stake from approximately 1965 to 1968.

Alvin H. Price was the bishop of the Brigham Young University 1st Ward in the Brigham Young University 6th Stake from approximately 1968 to 1973. In 1973, the Brigham Young University 1st Ward became the Brigham Young University 1st Branch, and Price became the branch president.

Leland B. Wakefield (1919-2004) was a long-time owner-operator of Wakefield's, Inc. an independent piano, music, electronics, and appliance store. He served as branch president of the Brigham Young University 1st Branch in the Brigham Young University 6th Stake from approximately 1977-1985.
