Biographical History

William W. Winder (b. 1942) was a professor of zoology, biology, and physiology in Utah.

William W. Winder was born in 1942 in Vernal, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University, where he earned his bachelor's (1966) and doctoral degrees (1971) in Zoology. After graduation he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in exercise physiology at the Washington University School of Medicine before joining their faculty of preventative medicine. In 1979 he left Washington University for the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, where he taught physiology. Then in 1982 he joined the faculty at Brigham Young University. Between 1986 and 2002 he was a member of the Zoology Department, and later moved to the Department of Physiology and Developmental Biology. He served as chair of the latter department from 2009 to 2012.

Following his retirement in 2012, Winder and his wife Linda served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Santa Rosa, California.
