Collection of files, photographs, VHS and beta tapes, souvenirs and publicity material relating to the movie presentation system Cinerama. Tapes contain interviews with people involved with various Cinerama movies. Dated approximately 1950-2010. Bulk 1950-1965.

Biographical / Historical

David Strohmaier is a film editor and historian.

He studied at the University of Iowa film school. He has worked at major studios including Warner Brothers, the Walt Disney Company and 20th Century Fox. He has edited CircleVision and EPCOT documentaries for Disney parks. With Cinerama Adventure, Strohmaier is now working as a director and writer.

Arranged in nine series: 1. Interviews and stills on Neon Theatre, How the West was Won, and editing Cinerama, 1952-2008. 2. Interviews and stills on Oyster Bay, Paul Mantz, and editing Cinerama, 1952-2008. 3. Interviews and stills on stunts and Cinerama editing and filming, 1952-2008. 4. Interviews and stills on Cinemiracle Windjammer and Cinerama advertising, 1952-2008. 5. Materials on smileboxing, Seven Wonders of the World, Cinerama Adventure, and Cinerama shorts, 1952-2008. 6. Stock footage and other materials from various Cinerama films, 1952-2008. 7. Audio and stock footage from various Cinerama films, 1952-2008. 8. David Strohmaier, the original creator of the collection, carefully organized and documented his entire collection, to the folder-level and beyond. His personal finding aid is in the case file.

The contents were compiled, encapsulated, stored, and managed by David Strohmaier before they were donated to Special Collections in 2016.
