Abiel Leonard letter to A. P. Stevenson
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Leonard, missionary bishop of Salt Lake City for the Episcopal Church, to Miss A. P. Stevenson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, dated January 30, 1900. The letter notes the receipt of a note and gift from Miss Stevenson, mentions an outing he took to rest from his labors, and mentions sending a photograph of himself (not included). The letter is written on "Bishop's House" letterhead, and includes an envelope postmarked January 31, 1900.

Biographical History
The Right Reverend Abiel Leonard (1848–1903) was the second bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah.
Abiel Leonard was born June 26, 1848 in Fayette, Missouri. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1870 and General Theological Seminary, New York, in 1873. On October 21, 1875, Leonard married Flora Terry Thompson and they had six children together. Leonard went on to become a noted Episcopal bishop, serving as bishop of Utah and Nevada from 1888 to 1903.
Abiel Leonard died in on December 3, 1903 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
