Biographical history
Julie Ann Lockwood Hales (1824-1903) was a Mormon pioneer, plural wife, and early resident of Spanish Fork, Utah.
Julie Ann Lockwood was born August 10, 1824, in Canandaigua, New York, to Joseph Lockwood and Anne Gillette. Her family joined to Mormon Church, and she traveled with them to Illinois, where she married Charles Henry Hales in 1839 in Quincy, Illinois. The couple had eight children together. They moved to Nauvoo and left with the rest of the Saints in 1846, while Julie Ann was pregnant with their fourth child. Julie Ann and Charles, and their three young children, resided in Garden Grove, Iowa, a wayside between Nauvoo and Winter Quarters, for six years. Three more children would be born while here. In 1852, they joined the James C. Snow company and journeyed to Utah, arriving in October. That same year, Charles took a second wife, Frances Brunyer, and they moved to Spanish Fork.
Julie Ann Lockwood Hales died in Spanish Fork, Utah, on February 18, 1903.
