Black Hawk War company roster sheet
Content Description
Handwritten roster, in dark pencil, for the second and fourth platoons of an unidentified "Company D." There are twelve men listed in the 2nd platoon and 13 in the 4th platoon. Along with names, there are columns to indicate the number of horses, saddles, sabers, guns, pistols and rounds of ammunition. A number of men are listed as being sick, absent or unavailable. The date on the document corresponds to the beginning of the last period of active service for the Utah Territorial militia, which retained its original name of "Nauvoo Legion" from the days in Illinois. The Legion was activated this final time around in order to serve in the Utah Black Hawk War. Dated November 2, 1865.
