Scope and Contents
Color copy of a letter from Evan Austin Williams, writing from Willard, Utah, to his parents in Wales. In his letter, Williams talks about armies being sent to destroy the Mormons and shares his testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Mormon religion. He also inquires about other family in Wales and talks about his own, including his son, Noah. Dated January 22, 1863.

Biographical / Historical
Evan Austin Williams (1822-1887) was a blacksmith in Utah.
Evan Austin Williams was born on October 29, 1822 in Wales to Noah and Jane Austin Williams. While still in Wales, he married Mary Ann Tompkins on February 28, 1848 and together they had ten children. After becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Williams left his parents and siblings and emigrated with his own family to the United States in about 1859 to live with the Saints. He lived in Willard, Box Elder County, Utah Territory for awhile working as a blacksmith. Williams also lived in Paris, Bear Lake, Idaho where he died on October 18, 1887.
