Scope and Contents

Contains Petersen's personal Gospel Topics files (including two missionary books written by Rose Marie Reid), lecture notes from church and school, family history, correspondence, writings, photographs, and journals. Includes information on the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as Petersen's work at the Church Historical Department. Materials are dated 1935-1999.

Biographical History

Lauritz G. Petersen (1916-1999) was a genealogist and church historian.

Lauritz George Petersen was born on August 19, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents George Emil and Thyra Louise Caroline Jorgensen Petersen. He married Arleane Curtis (1915-2012) on June 28, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and together they had two children. He served in World War II as a Private in the US Army. He worked as a Historical Researcher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also involved in personal research in his own family history.

Petersen died on February 17, 1999 in Gunnison, Utah. He is buried in Sandy, Utah.
