Biographical History
Luman Andros Shurtliff (1807-1884) was an early Mormon convert and pioneer.
Luman Andros Shurtliff was born on March 13, 1807 in Montgomery, Massachusetts to parents Noah and Lydia Brown Shurtliff. He grew up baptist but was baptized into the Mormon church on August 21, 1836. Within the church he served as a member of the seventy, a temple worker in Nauvoo, Illinois, and a patriarch.
He moved to Utah in 1851 and was soon elected to the Utah Territorial Legislature. He also served as Prosecuting Attorney in 1855. Shurtliff was also very involved in military campaigns throughout his life.
Shurtliff had five wives and thirty-three children. They lived in Harrisville, Utah. He passed away on August 25, 1884 in Harrisville, Utah and is buried in Ogden, Utah.
