Biographical History
Nellie Zimmer (1892-1987) was an American concert harpist.
Nellie Zimmer, also referred to as Nellie Maranda Zimmer or Nellie M. Zimmer, was born on December 8, 1892 to parents Anthony M. and Josephine Wade Zimmer in Newark Valley, New York. She studied the harp after high school in Round Lake, New York. She started her career as a harpist in a harp trio, which she formed with her sister, Ethel Zimmer, and another harpist, Georgia Price. After the death of Georgia Price, Nellie moved to Boston to work, where she was involved in the Union Work-orchestras and church, summer theaters, teaching and touring concerts around New England and New York with the Quintet. In 1979, Nellie moved to California, where she died in La Jolla, San Diego on July 27, 1987. Nellie is most known for being a successful teacher and performer. She toured throughout the United States both as a soloist and director of her own harp ensemble. She also created many harp arrangements for solo, ensemble, and orchestral use.
