Elizabeth Touchstone Clayton collection of family letters
Scope and Contents
Contains letters between immediate and extended family members of Elizabeth Touchstone Clayton, which come from various states including Texas, Alabama, Washington, New York, and New Jersey. A majority of the letters are between husband, William D. Craig, and wife, Bessie Graham Craig. Also includes letters from Gavin Drummond Hunt to his sister, Mary Craig, and letters from Allie G. Hunt. The letters date before, during, and after the American Civil War, and some letters include correspondence for Civil War soldiers about their activies on the war front. For the most part, the letters discuss every day proceedings of the lives of family and friends. Dated approximately 1838-1976. Also includes photocopies and transcriptions, and a DVD copy of most of the letters.

Biographical / Historical
Elizabeth Touchstone Clayton was born June 25, 1927, in Dallas, Texas to William Weatherford Touchstone and Anna Catherine Craig. She and her husband, L. Whitney Clayton, Jr., raised three boys in southern California before retiring to Wymoming. Elizabeth and her husband served a medical mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of their sons, Weatherford T. Clayton, served in the Seventy for the Church. Elizabeth passed away August 21, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
