Biographical History

Marilyn Beck (1928- ) is a journalist and actress.

Hanna Marilyn Mohr Beck was born on December 17, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Los Angeles as a young child and studied journalism at the University of Southern California. She married Roger Beck (now divorced), and together they had 2 children. She later married Arthur Levine in 1980.

Beck acted in or played herself in 10 movies and TV shows, including The Man with Bogart's Face and an episode of Here's Lucy.

Beck began working as a newspaper and magazine writer in the early 1960's, and began a syndicated column in 1967. In 1970, she was named Sheliah Graham's successor for the North American Newspaper Alliance. She became affiliated with Tribune Media Services in 1980, then moved to Creators Syndicate in 1990. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she maintained a combined print readership upwards of 25 million; she maintained a large readership into the 2000s while transitioning to the internet. She established an early web presence in the mid 1980's via Prodigy and CompuServe, and later E! Online and AOL. In 1990, she partnered with a newspaper and magazine writer and former protege, Stacy Jenel Smith, to write a column Beck/Smith Hollywood Exclusive, now featured in hundreds of outlets across the United States and around the world. Beck/Smith Hollywood Exclusive continues through Creators Syndicate.

Beck has authored several books about Hollywood, the film industry, and its people. She has won honors from the Los Angeles City Council, the Southern California Motion Picture Council, and the IGG Publicists Guild of America. She is listed in Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in Entertainment.

Beck lives in Oceanside, California.
