DeFonda and Theodore Collier papers
Scope and Contents
Collection contains the Colliers's various writings throughout the years. DeFonda kept a diary from 1916 to 1998. The collection also has many letters to and from various family members. Although Theodore never kept a formal diary except while he was on his mission, his letters to children (mostly Bob and Rae Ann) essentially serve that purpose. The collection also contains photographs, appointment calendars, a tribute to Grandmother DeFonda Collier, a family bible, and other ephemera. There are also so family history items. These include a record of the ancestors of DeFonda Dowdle Collier and some old diaries. Materials dated 1916-1998.

Biographical History
Theodore Collier (1902-1966) was a Vernal, Utah native best known for his service in the South Texas mission between 1922-1924.
Ted (Theodore) Collier was born 29 October 1902, in Vernal, Utah. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the South Texas Mission from 1922 to 1924. On May 23, 1928, Ted married DeFonda Virtue Dowdle. He died June 9, 1966 of a heart attack.
Biographical History
DeFonda Collier (1904-2002) was an avid writer who collected children's literature.
DeFonda Virtue Dowdle Collier was born September 1, 1904 in Logan, Utah. She grew up in Newton, Utah. In 1922, she wrote for the Cache Valley High School newspaper, the Clarion. She married Ted Collier on May 23, 1928. Together, DeFonda and Ted had seven children. After Ted's death in 1966, she continued to write letters to her children. She traveled across the United States with Eunice Young in 1978. She also continued her study and collection of children's literature. DeFonda died on October 24, 2002.
