Scope and Contents
The folder contains photocopies of a handwritten account book written between 1836-1840. The items list transactions involving Mormons in Kirtland, Ohio and in Nauvoo, Illinois including leaders such as Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and Sidney Rigdon (1793-1876). The materials were photocopied from a microfilm collection.

Biographical History
Vinson Knight was born 14 March 1804, in Chester, Washington County, New York to Rudolphus Knight and Rizpah Lee. He was a druggist and served as Presiding Bishop and church land agent for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Knight married Martha McBride in 1826. They owned a farm at Perrysburg, New York, when converted in 1834. He was a charter member of and owned stock in the Kirtland Safety Society January 1837. Knight participated in the dedication of the Kirtland Temple and traveled to Far West, Missouri, with Joseph Smith September-December 1837. Knight moved to Missouri in the summer of 1838, and located in Daviess County. He was appointed acting bishop pro tem of Adam-Ondi-Ahman Stake 28 June 1838. In 1839, he was expelled from Missouri and located temporarily in Quincy, Illinois. As the church land agent, he assisted in purchasing thousands of acres of land in Lee County, Iowa, May-June 1839. By the revelation of 19 January 1841, he was made Presiding Bishop of Church. He also served on the Nauvoo City Council. He died in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois, 31 July 1842.
