Administrative History
The Square Root Club was established 14 May 1956. It existed until 1985, with a break in the 1979-1980 school year. It was reorganized in 1980, and continued although only fragmented in the last few years.
The Square Root Club was established 14 May 1956 by the wives of several Brigham Young University Mathematics Department professors. The purpose of the club was to foster an environment of "friendship and cultural development," as their motto and aim so indicated. The club first met at the homes of its members at 8 pm on the first Monday of every month. The wives of the Physics professors were invited to attend for the first few years, or 'until both departments were large enough to form their own independent clubs.' The club stood as an establishment for the sake of providing friendship and cultural development of the faculty and spouses at BYU. It existed until 1985, with a break in the 1979-1980 school year. It was reorganized in 1980, and continued although only fragmented in the last few years.
