Scope and Contents note
The Ianthe Matheson Harper diary, 1933–1978, includes two introductory biographical essays (the first written in 1933 in Mar Vista, California, and the second written in 1939 in St. George, Utah) that document Ianthe Matheson Harper's childhood in Cedar City, Utah; early married life in Los Angeles, California; and later move to Saint George, Utah.
Typewritten diary entries from 1936–1978 include descriptions of Ianthe Matheson Harper's daily life; activities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and church service; descriptions of family events, activities and gatherings; reflections on local, national, and world events; and life in Saint George, Utah; Ogden, Utah; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Biographical History
Ianthe Matheson Harper (1898-1983) married a well-known musician and performed in many musical programs with him.
Ianthe Matheson Harper was born December 27, 1898 in Cedar City, Utah, to Daniel Enoch Matheson and Alice Maude Wilson Lunt. She married a well-known musician, Seth Harper on July 21, 1921. She and her husband had three daughters, all born in Los Angeles, California: Shirley Harper Schmutz, Edythe Harper Rodarte, and Iona Harper Stewart.
Ianthe and her husband performed in many musical programs together and she enjoyed traveling, sewing, and writing. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she taught in the Young Women's Program and the Relief Society. Over the course of her life she lived in Cedar City, Utah; Los Angeles, California; St. George, Utah; Ogden, Utah; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Las Vegas, Nevada. She also served as an Mormon temple worker. Her husband, Seth Harper, died in 1960. Ianthe Matheson Harper died in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 19, 1983.
