Biographical History
Reed M. Izatt (1926-), Ph.D., was an associate professor of chemistry at Brigham Young University.
Reed M. Izatt was born 10 October 1926 to Alexander S. and Marian McNeil Izatt in Logan, Utah. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Scotland from 1947-1949. He married Helen Marie Felix; they had five children together. He received his B.S. degree from Utah State University in 1951, his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 1954, and continued with post doctoral work at Carnegie-Mellon University until 1956. He was an assistant professor at Brigham Young University from 1956-1960 and then an associate professor of chemistry starting in 1960. He received awards such as the Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology in 1990 for his research concerning removing metal ions from water streams.
