Scope and Contents
Two page letter from Susan Ertz to the editor of the Boston Evening Transcript. Ertz wrote the letter in response to comments that had been made in the paper because of her book “The Proselyte” about Mormons. She addresses what she feels are the problems with many books about Mormons and says that there are only a few which are worth reading, which she names. Dated 1933.

Biographical History
Susan Ertz (1894-1985), British author.
Susan Ertz was born in Surrey, England, to Americans Charles and Mary Ertz. During her childhood she lived in both the US and England, but chose to stay in England when she turned eighteen. She married a British Army officer, John McCriddle in 1932. She wrote around twenty novels, many of them dealing with a female lead character who tries to understand a hostile world. One of her more well known books (and also the one the letter deals with) is entitled The Proselyte and deals with an English woman marrying a Mormon missionary and moving to Utah with him. She died 11 April 1985.
