Biographical History

Gabriel Alonzo Huntsman (1886-1963) principle, teacher, rancher, and a very involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gabriel Alonzo Huntsman was born 30 May 1886 in Fillmore, Utah, to Gabriel Riley Huntsman and Hannah Hanson Huntsman. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1907 and married Nellie Melville in Fillmore, Utah, 29 December 1909. From 1907–1909 he was principal of the Peteetneet School in Payson, Utah. He later became principal of the Fillmore Elementary School and from 1918–1927 he served as superintendent of the Millard County School District. He later taught high school at the Millard County High School in Fillmore, Utah. A rancher and cattleman, he also served as secretary of the Utah Cattleman’s Association. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gabriel Alonzo Huntsman served as superintendent of the Sunday School and the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association. He and his wife, Nellie Melville Huntsman, had seven children: Blaine, Harold, Scott, Clayton, Afton, Merodean, and Florence. Gabriel Alonzo Huntsman died 31 March 1963. His wife, Nellie, died 26 July 1977.
