This large 22 x 28 inch manuscript honoring ex-mayor
Abraham Owen Smoot is surrounded by a fine lattice drawing incorporating 19 oval photographic images of Salt Lake City police officers who served in the Smoot administration. An oval photograph of Mayor Smoot is located at the top of the manuscript. Located immediately below the photograph of Mayor Smoot are four paragraphs of calligraphic text with illuminated initials, followed by the signatures of the Salt Lake police officers. Drawings found on the manuscript include an image of an eagle perched atop a Utah beehive; a shield of the U.S. flag; and a shield with an image of a grazing lamb. The manuscript is dated 5 March 1866.
