Biographical / Historical
Harriet Eliza Bunting Eagar was born May 1, 1860, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the first child of James Lovett and Harriet Dye Bunting. Her family moved to Kanab, Utah, when she was a young child. Harriet married John Thomas Eagar in St. George, Utah, on January 11, 1877, at age 16. In 1878, the couple moved to Arizona where they were called to help settle a Latter-day Saint community near Springerville. Eliza and John had twelve children, with only five surviving to adulthood. They helped form the town of Eagar with John's two brothers, and where John served as a bishop. After twenty-five years of farming, a drought in Arizona caused them to move to Mexico in 1906. They returned to live in Snowflake, Arizona, in 1912 during the Mexican Revolution. Harriet died May 18, 1927, in Snowflake, Arizona.
