Toronto letter about Peter Dawson

 Item — Folder: 1
Identifier: MSS 4061

Scope and Contents note

A letter, written by a Latter-day Saint in Toronto, warning of Peter Dawson, who has joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is moving with his family to Kirtland, Ohio, without paying his debts in Toronto. Mr. Dawson has left his books but the writer cannot understand them. Dr. Dawson has unfinished business involving a Bail. On top of leaving his debt unpaid, Mr. Dawson was apparently intoxicated when he left. The writer fears this irresponsible incident will damage the Church’s reputation. The writer has mentioned this incident to the Church, where it was unanimously agreed that [the writer] should write to the Brethren at Kirtland, charging them against fellowshipping him until such times as ample satisfaction is made to his Creditor. He asks the recipient of the letter to persuade Mr. Dawson to return to Toronto. March 13, 1837. 2 pages, handwritten. Unsigned.
