Scope and Contents
Letter of Henry Hopkins Sibley to E. H. Jones, 24 July 1859, Ft. Laramie. Contains a reference to "the Mountain Meadow Orphans, Wards of the Nation," who were then at Ft. Laramie. Important letter tracing the route of the small children not killed at the Mountain Meadows Massacre, 11 September 1857.

Biographical / Historical
Henry Hopkins Sibley (1816-1886) served in the U.S. Army during the "Utah War" of 1857-1858, and later was the commander of the Confederate expedition sent to seize New Mexico and Arizona during the Civil War - he was defeated at Glorieta Pass.
