His essay says that geography is the foundation of all historical sciences and that geography also enables one to understand geology, zoology, and philosophy.

John Wilson Redd was born on December 23, 1859 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Lemuel Hardison Redd and Keziah Jane Butler. He died February 28, 1888 in Onavas, Sonora, Mexico.
