Scope and Contents
Autograph book containing autographs, greetings, and letters. These materials were addressed to Elsner and his wife. Most of the items were from Denver, Colorado, though many of the salutations came from other cities in the United States.

Biographical History
John Elsner (1844-1922) was a physician in Colorado.
John Leopold Elsner was born on May 8, 1844 in Vienna, Austria to Leopold and Hanschen Sultzbacher Elsner. In 1866 Elsner came to Colorado, eventually establishing a medical practice in Denver. He married Lena Zalinger on September 29, 1867, and they had two children. Elsner became a leader within the community, helping to found the city and state medical societies in 1871. He also worked to establish the B'nai B'rith Lodge and Congregation Emmanuel, and the National Jewish Hospital in 1889. Elsner passed away on April 1, 1922 in Denver.
