James F. Johnson letter
Scope and Contents note
Letter from Johnson to his cousin Sarah, dated January 8, 1883. He relates his journey to China from the eastern United States, beginning with his arrival in Little Rock, Arkansas, then on to Dallas, Fort Worth, and El Paso, Texas. He travels over the Rio Grande River at El Paso, through New Mexico and Arizona, comments on the Rocky Mountains and finally crosses the Colorado River into California. He then passes through Los Angeles and finally arrives at the port in San Francisco.
